NR GUARDRAIL UPGRADES – ALASKA HIGHWAY ROAD CONSTRUCTION through the season
What You Need to Know
  • Crews are performing shoulder work and guardrail installation in various locations along the Alaska Highway.
  • Please be alert to DELAYS due to flagging operations at each work zone. Expect DELAYS up to 20 minutes.
  • Please drive carefully and be alert to equipment and crews working on the roadway, in addition to narrow lanes throughout a small section of the project area.
Project End Result

The Alaska Department of Transportation, in cooperation with Granite Construction Company, is working to replace portions of guardrail along the Alaska Highway from the Canadian border to Delta Junction. These are safety upgrades to meet current height requirements and end terminal standards. This project is expected to be complete in October 2020.

  • Traffic fines are double
  • Watch for changing driving surfaces
  • Watch for reduced speed limits
  • Be alert to and follow directions of flaggers
  • Drive with headlights on
  • Allow additional time when traveling
  • Watch for equipment and workers
