HAINES HIGHWAY RECONSTRUCTION, MP 3.9 to MP 12.2 PHASE 1 ROAD CONSTRUCTION through September
What You Need to Know
  • Be alert to construction signs and crews working along the Haines Highway from MP 3.9 to 12.2.
  • Drivers should expect daily LANE RESTRICTIONS and PILOT CAR and flagging operations Monday thru Sunday, from 6:00am to 6:00pm.
  • Please expect DELAYS up to 20 minutes and plan accordingly.
Traffic Impacts

Traffic will not be restricted during peak morning and evening hours or during holidays. Construction activities will not restrict tour bus schedules when cruise ships are docked. Expect unpaved surfaces throughout the duration of the project.

Project End Result

The Alaska Department of Transportation, in cooperation with SECON, is working to reconstruct Haines Highway from milepost 3.9 to 12.2. This project is expected to be complete by September 2019.

  • Watch for changing driving surfaces
  • Watch for reduced speed limits
  • Be alert to and follow directions of flaggers
  • Drive with headlights on
  • Allow additional time when traveling
  • Watch for equipment and workers
