Road Closure

Expected to begin at 7:00am Saturday, September 14 through 7:00am Monday, September 23, the intersection of Cobb Street and Evergreen Avenue will be CLOSED. Please follow posted DETOUR ROUTES. Crews will be working 24 hours a day to complete this work.

What You Need to Know
  • Be aware of flagging operations at truck crossing locations between Commercial Drive and Crimson View Drive daily, between 7:00am and 6:00pm.
  • Beginning Wednesday, September 4, be alert to a NEW TRAFFIC PATTERN on Moore Road. Please follow posted signs.

Drivers should be aware of double fines in the construction zone.

Project End Result

The Alaska Department of Transportation is working to upgrade the Glenn Highway from South Inner Springer Loop to West Arctic Avenue from the existing two lane configuration to a four lane configuration as well as adding a continuous pedestrian pathway. Other project work will include installing four new traffic signals at the intersection of Evergreen Avenue and Cobb Street, Glenn Highway and Colony Way, Glenn Highway and East Inner Springer Loop, as well as Glenn Highway and South Inner Springer Loop. Construction crews will also be adding a frontage road from Glacier View Avenue to Cienna Avenue. Drivers should be aware of construction crews and equipment along the shoulder as well as clearing activities throughout the project boundaries. Project work in 2019 will include constructing the new embankment, installing traffic signals, and initial paving operations. Work will also include removing and replacing the underground storm drain system, underground highway lighting and traffic signal conduit and wires. Project work in 2020 will include finalizing paving operations and installing final striping and signage.
