GLACIER HIGHWAY, FRITZ COVE ROAD to SEAVIEW AVENUE ROAD CONSTRUCTION through late August
What You Need to Know
  • Construction crews are working on the uphill (east) side of Glacier Highway from Auke Bay Elementary School to Seaview Avenue to install curbs, gutters, driveway approaches and sidewalks. 
  • Residential and business access will be maintained throughout the construction zone. 
  • A temporary pedestrian pathway has been established on the harbor (west) side of Glacier Highway with a temporary crosswalk at Bayview Avenue for access to the uphill side. Please use caution when traveling through the project area.
Traffic Impacts

Construction crews will be working from 7:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Saturday. Please be alert to equipment and construction personnel throughout the construction zone. Drivers should expect DELAYS.

Project End Result

The Alaska Department of Transportation, in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration and Contractor, SECON, is working to reconstruct Glacier Highway between Fritz Cove Road and Seaview Avenue in Auke Bay, Alaska. This project will improve roadway safety, roadway geometry, intersection configurations, pedestrian access, driveway configurations, roadway illumination and drainage. This is a two phase project: Phase 1 (2017) is from Fritz Cove Road to the Backloop Roundabout and Phase 2 (2018) is from the Backloop Roundabout to Seaview Avenue.

Safety in all construction zones:

  • Traffic fines are double
  • Watch for changing driving surfaces
  • Watch for reduced speed limits
  • Be alert to and follow directions of flaggers
  • Drive with headlights on
  • Allow additional time when traveling
  • Watch for equipment and workers
