Road Closure

Expected to begin Monday, August 5, through Sunday, August 31, 5th Avenue will be CLOSED between Cowles Street and Barnette Street.

Expected to begin Monday, August 5, through Sunday, August 31, drivers should expect LANE CLOSURES on Cowles Street between 23rd Avenue and 24th Avenue, as well as between 28th Avenue and 29th Avenue.

What You Need to Know
  • Work is expected to start the week of August 5. Crews will be working Monday to Saturday, 7:00am to 5:00pm.
  • Drivers should expect flagging operations as well as DELAYS while crews are working at various project sites throughout Fairbanks and North Pole.
Project End Result

The Alaska Department of Transportation, in cooperation with HC Contractors, is working to construct sidewalks at various locations throughout Fairbanks and North Pole. This project is expected to be complete in August 2020.

Safety in all construction zones:

  • Traffic fines are double
  • Watch for changing driving surfaces
  • Watch for reduced speed limits
  • Be alert to and follow directions of flaggers
  • Drive with headlights on
  • Allow additional time when traveling
  • Watch for equipment and workers
