CHIEF EDDIE HOFFMAN HIGHWAY, MP 0.0 to 4.4 and RIDGECREST DRIVE PAVEMENT PRESERVATION ROAD CONSTRUCTION through the season
Road Closure

Expected to last through the summer, Chief Eddie Hoffman Highway and Ridgecrest Drive will be partially CLOSED, and drivers should expect ONE-LANE TRAFFIC. When the road is CLOSED, expect DELAYS up to 20 minutes. Please follow posted DETOURS to Watson's Corner.

Watson's Corner will be CLOSED for a few days when culvert repair, paving, and signing and striping occur, but a DETOUR will be provided.

What You Need to Know
  • Crews are working on Chief Eddie Hoffman Highway and Ridgecrest Drive, throughout the summer
  • Drivers should expect DELAYS up to 20 minutes between Alaska Airlines and the bridge, to the small boat harbor, and from Watson's Corner to Akakeek Street.
Traffic Impacts

Main Street, 5th Street, 7th Street, Osage Street and Akiak Drive will be impacted only where they intersect Chief Eddie Hoffman Highway and Ridgecrest Road.  This is the best way to avoid the coming congestion around Watson's Corner.

Project End Result

The Alaska Department of Transportation, in cooperation with Knik Construction, Inc., is working to improve road conditions of Chief Eddie Hoffman Highway and Ridgecrest Drive. Watson's Corner and adjacent areas will have extensive work done to improve the road. Work will include crews installing six inches of foamed asphalt and four inches of asphalt on top, for 10 inches total. This project is expected to be complete in July 2020.
