What You Need to Know
BRIDGE OPENING: The Aleknagik Wood River Bridge is now open to vehicle traffic. Drivers should use caution as work may continue on the roadway on both sides of Wood River as the project nears completion. Wood River marine traffic is RESTRICTED to the now permanent 172 foot wide by approximately 38 foot tall navigational opening under the new bridge.
Project End Result
The Alaska Department of Transportation is working with Mowat Construction to construct a bridge over Wood River to be completed on October 31, 2015. The bridge will be two lanes and will provide a 38-foot clearance above the river. Phase II of the Project also includes constructing a roadway connecting Lake Aleknagik Road to Peter Krause Sr. Drive on the north side of Aleknagik. The proposed roadway will be paved and have two 10-foot lanes with 5-foot shoulders, adding 2.5 additional miles of roadway on the north and south shores.
