Project End Result

The Alaska Department of Transportation, in cooperation with HC Contractors Inc., is working to reconstruct the intersection of Airport Way, Steese Expressway, Gaffney Road, and the Richardson Highway. Project work will include constructing a new intersection, with new separated right and left-turn lanes. Project work will also involve resurfacing the Steese Expressway between the aforementioned intersection and 3rd Street, as well as signal upgrades between Airport Way and College Road. Work will also include roadside hardware, drainage improvements, lighting improvements, and upgrading pedestrian pathways. This project is expected to be completed in October 2023.

Safety in all construction zones:

  • Traffic fines are double
  • Watch for changing driving surfaces
  • Watch for reduced speed limits
  • Be alert to and follow directions of flaggers
  • Drive with headlights on
  • Allow additional time when traveling
  • Watch for equipment and workers
