18. HSIP: SEWARD HIGHWAY PASSING LANES MP 37 to 52 and SEWARD HIGHWAY PAVEMENT PRESERVATION MP 36 to 48 ROAD CONSTRUCTION through the season
What You Need to Know
  • Drivers should expect a nightly intermittent LANE CLOSURE along the Seward Highway between MP 42 and 44. Expect DELAYS, PILOT CAR and flagging operations, and double traffic fines. 
  • Be alert to construction trucks entering and exiting the highway within the project area.
  • Drivers should use caution on the gravel road and along the narrow DETOUR ROUTES. 
  • The speed limit through the project zone is 45 MPH, with a reduced speed limit of 35 MPH on the gravel road.
Project End Result

The Alaska Department of Transportation, in cooperation with QAP, is working to construct passing lanes and resurface the Seward Highway between MP 36 and 52. Work includes clearing and grubbing, drainage, excavation, embankment, slope stabilization, guardrail, paving, signing, and striping. The majority of project work is expected to be completed during the 2020 and 2021 construction seasons.

  • Traffic fines are double
  • Watch for changing driving surfaces
  • Watch for reduced speed limits
  • Be alert to and follow directions of flaggers

  • Allow additional time when traveling
  • Watch for equipment and workers
