What You Need to Know
- The Elliott Highway currently has 50% load restrictions from MP 73 to MP 150, and on Tofty Road from MP 0 to Tofty.
Traffic Impacts
Over the course of the summer, be alert to increased truck traffic on Tofty Road and the Elliott Highway, from Livengood to Manley Hot Springs.
Haul trucks and off-road dump trucks will be in constant use for the duration of the project. If possible, avoid using the road where there is active construction. If use of the Tofty Road / Tanana Extension Road is unavoidable, please use extreme caution as it is a single-lane road with limited view.
No road closures are anticipated with this project. Access to existing roads and trails within the project area will remain open through the duration of construction, though there will be no access to the new road being constructed.
Expect minor construction work on Tofty Road.
Project End Result
The Alaska Department of Transportation is working to construct a new road beginning at MP 16 on Tofty Road and ending on the south banks of the Yukon River, seven miles from the city of Tanana. The new road will feature multiple turnouts, a bridge spanning Boulder Creek, and minor improvements to Tofty Road.
