What You Need to Know
  • Drivers should expect reduced speeds and ONE-LANE TRAFFIC with PILOT CAR and flagging operations during the following times: Sunday nights between 9:00pm and 9:00am, and Monday through Thursday nights between 8:00pm and 8:00am.

  • Expected to go through July, construction crews are constructing the temporary DETOURS and bridges at Virgin Creek and Peterson Creek. Crews will be working between 7:00am and 5:00pm, 7 days a week. 

  • Through Labor Day there will be no work in the roadway between 5:00am Friday and 10:00pm Sunday.

Traffic Impacts

Drivers should expect ONE-LANE TRAFFIC with flagging and PILOT CAR operations and reduced speeds. Please be aware of equipment and crews working along the shoulders.

Project End Result

The Alaska Department of Transportation, in partnership with Granite Construction, is working to improve road conditions on the Seward Highway from MP 75 to 90. Upgrades will include road resurfacing, road realignment, passing lanes, drainage improvements, shore protection improvements, and pedestrian facilities. This project will also include new bridges at Glacier, Virgin and Peterson Creeks, and the rehabilitation of the Ingram Creek bridge.

Safety in all construction zones:

  • Traffic fines are double
  • Watch for changing driving surfaces
  • Watch for reduced speed limits
  • Be alert to and follow directions of flaggers
  • Drive with headlights on
  • Allow additional time when traveling
  • Watch for equipment and workers
