What You Need to Know
  • Drivers should expect LANE RESTRICTIONS with flagging operations on the Richardson Highway, between 9:00am and 4:00pm.
  • Drivers should be aware that the asphalt along the entire north and south frontage roads has been removed. Please use extreme caution in this area.
  • Expected to begin Sunday, September 15, crews will be performing paving activities on the south frontage road, and upon completion move to the north frontage road.
  • By Sunday, September 22, the first lift of asphalt is expected to be complete on all frontage roads.
Project End Result

The Alaska Department of Transportation is working to reconstruct the Richardson Highway and adjacent frontage roads. Project work will include repairing roadside hardware and improving drainage, intersections and utilities. Work during the 2019 construction season will also include constructing new frontage roads and modifying highway access points. Paving will be finalized during the 2020 construction season. We will do our best to keep you informed as work progresses and appreciate your patience and cooperation during construction. This project is expected to be complete in September 2020.

Safety in all construction zones:

  • Traffic fines are double
  • Watch for changing driving surfaces
  • Watch for reduced speed limits
  • Be alert to and follow directions of flaggers
  • Drive with headlights on
  • Allow additional time when traveling
  • Watch for equipment and workers
