What You Need to Know
  • Work is expected to start in spring 2018.
  • Expect flagging and PILOT CAR operations with DELAYS of up to 20 minutes.
  • Be alert to occasional LANE CLOSURES throughout construction period. AlaskaNavigator.org will be updated to reflect upcoming CLOSURES.
  • No work will occur before 8:00am daily to benefit local morning traffic.
Project End Result

The Alaska Department of Transportation, in partnership with HC Contractors, is working to rehabilitate the Old Nenana Highway. In addition, shoulders will be widened to accommodate bicycle and pedestrians, and the existing bike path from Ester Community Park to Village Road will be extended. We will do our best to keep you updated as work progresses and appreciate your patience and cooperation during construction. This project is expected to be complete in October 2018.

Safety in all construction zones:

  • Traffic fines are double
  • Watch for changing driving surfaces
  • Watch for reduced speed limits
  • Be alert to and follow directions of flaggers
  • Drive with headlights on
  • Allow additional time when traveling
  • Watch for equipment and workers
