JUNEAU: EGAN DRIVE AND RIVERSIDE INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS ROAD CONSTRUCTION through May
What You Need to Know
  • Crews are milling and paving the section of highway between the Mendenhall Loop Road intersection and the Riverside Drive intersection.
  • Crews are working at night from 12:00am to 12:00pm, on Fridays and Saturdays.
  • Drivers should be aware of NEW TRAFFIC PATTERNS and DETOURS.
  • Anticipated CLOSURES are below:
    • Friday CLOSURES:
      • Left turn out of Riverside Drive onto Egan Drive
      • Left turn onto Riverside Drive from Egan Drive (Southbound)
      • Left turn onto Mendenhall Loop Road from Egan Drive (Southbound)
    • Saturday CLOSURES:
      • Riverside Drive access will be CLOSED from Egan Drive to the Mall Road intersection
      • Left turn onto Riverside Drive from Egan Drive (Southbound)
      • Right turn onto Glacier Highway from Egan Drive. (Southbound)
Traffic Impacts

Once work begins, crews will be working from approximately 7:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Saturday, with intermittent night work.

Project End Result

The Alaska Department of Transportation, in cooperation with SECON, is working on Egan Drive between the intersections of Mendenhall Loop Road and Riverside Drive. This project will involve milling and repaving a portion of Egan Drive, beginning near the Mendenhall Loop and Egan Drive intersection and ending at the Riverside Drive and Egan Drive intersection. Work will also include relocating a traffic light pole in the northwest corner of the Riverside Drive and Egan Drive intersection, as well as two median expansions in the Egan Drive and Glacier Highway intersection.

Safety in all construction zones:

  • Traffic fines are double
  • Watch for changing driving surfaces
  • Watch for reduced speed limits
  • Be alert to and follow directions of flaggers
  • Drive with headlights on
  • Allow additional time when traveling
  • Watch for equipment and workers
