What You Need to Know
  • Drivers should be alert to a NEW TRAFFIC PATTERN in downtown Palmer, between Commercial Drive and Bogard Road.
  • Drivers should be aware of flagging operations in downtown Palmer daily, Monday through Saturday, between 7:00am and 5:00pm, with short DELAYS.
  • Please watch for flagging operations for trucks crossing at Commercial Drive, Drift Lane, and Cienna Avenue.

Drivers should be aware of double fines in the construction zone.

Project End Result

The Alaska Department of Transportation is working to upgrade the Glenn Highway from South Inner Springer Loop to West Arctic Avenue from the existing two lane configuration to a four lane configuration as well as adding a continuous pedestrian pathway. Other project work will include installing four new traffic signals at the intersection of Evergreen Avenue and Cobb Street, Glenn Highway and Colony Way, Glenn Highway and East Inner Springer Loop, as well as Glenn Highway and South Inner Springer Loop. Construction crews will also be adding a frontage road from Glacier View Avenue to Cienna Avenue. Drivers should be aware of construction crews and equipment along the shoulder as well as clearing activities throughout the project boundaries. Project work in 2019 will include constructing the new embankment, installing traffic signals, and initial paving operations. Work will also include removing and replacing the underground storm drain system, underground highway lighting and traffic signal conduit and wires. Project work in 2020 will include finalizing paving operations and installing final striping and signage.
